Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment.
Previously our school has been awarded Green Flags for Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Biodiversity and Travel. Participation in these projects has had a positive impact on creating a more environmentally sustainable school.
We are currently working on attaining our Green Flag for Global Citizenship and Travel.
We have a Green School Committee co-ordinated by Múinteoir Ellen and Múinteoir Catherine. There are two Green School Reps from the senior class and two from the junior class.
Our Green School Committee meet once a month to discuss how we are achieving the aims for our next Green Flag, while also continuing to uphold our previous flags. This year we are focusing on developing our school garden. We are growing a variety of fruit and veg such strawberries, peas and potatoes.
